Urban lot: Designphiladelphia

ONYA interdisciplinary design studio, founded by Grace Ong Yan, in collaboration with King Sophaphone, designed the architectural and spatial branding for DesignPhiladelphia as a kick off event and hub for the duration of the festival. The installation was on a temporary site across the street from the Rafael Viñoly-designed Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The design involved two scales of interaction: At a urban scale, a 3D supergraphics sign communicating the year and at the urban interior scale, an enclosure comprised of laser etched gossamer walls featuring the logo cut out at various scales. In relationship to the site and each other, both design elements engage the street and human occupants, creating a transformative environment within the urban lot.

On the lot, a labyrinth design was defined by a modular wall system, infilled with laser-cut Corian.
